About the Event

**THIS EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE! WE'RE HOPING FOR THE BEST, BUT PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER**

Join us to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024 in Chicago.

This year, we will be gathering on March 8th to rally and protest an anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center (aka “fake clinic”) in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago.

  • Event Title: STOP FAKE CLINICS: International Women’s Day Edition
  • Date: Friday, March 8, 2024
  • Time: Starts at 5:30 PM
  • Location: Outside of 1212 N. La Salle Drive, Chicago IL 60610

According to the official International Women’s Day (IWD) website, March 8th is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

In the spirit of calling our community to action, we will be rallying to protest the anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center that recently opened at 1212 N. La Salle Drive, right next door to Planned Parenthood. Local residents and neighbors deserve to know the truth about the anti-abortion forces that are at work in their community!

Anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers frequently open near abortion clinics in order to confuse people seeking reproductive healthcare and create opportunities to misdirect patients away from their appointments. This practice is known as “clinic co-location.”

While anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers claim to support women and families, reality does not support this claim. Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs):

  • Exist to intercept pregnant people and convince them not to have an abortion. Any other activities they conduct are in service to that mission.
  • Violate personal bodily autonomy. Even before they meet their clients, these centers have already decided what is best for them. CPCs have a well-documented history of spreading harmful medical disinformation in order to shame, scare, and coerce clients.
  • Delay women and birthing people from accessing real reproductive healthcare services. Abortion is a time-sensitive medical procedure, and CPCs’ delay tactics create real harm for people seeking care.

Join us on March 8th at 5:30pm to learn more about how anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers in Chicago and across the United States are creating dangerous barriers to healthcare for women and birthing people of color, young people and students, and people living in poverty.

You will also hear about Chicago for Abortion Rights’ next call to action, set to take place on Tuesday, March 26th–the day of the SCOTUS oral arguments in the anti-abortion case against mifepristone.
